20/20 stands as the fourth studio album by the American hip-hop trio Dilated Peoples, released on 21 February 2006, via ABB/Capitol Records. The recording sessions took place at various studios in Los Angeles. The production was primarily handled by members Evidence and DJ Babu, alongside contributors like Alchemist, Sid Roams, and Porse. Notable guest appearances include Capleton, Defari, Krondon, and Talib Kweli.
Debuting at number 97 on the Billboard 200 and number 35 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums in the United States, the album also reached number 56 on the Swiss Hitparade. Preceding its release, “Back Again” and “You Can’t Hide, You Can’t Run” were released as singles. “Back Again” peaked at No. 98 on the UK Singles Chart and found placement in the video games Fight Night Round 3 and MLB 06: The Show.
Critical reception for 20/20 was generally favourable. NOW magazine praised it for being “rife with brow-raising darts and mind-blowing beats,” surpassing the group’s previous efforts. Spin appreciated DJ Babu’s turntablism, noting it straddled the indie-mainstream divide. PopMatters found the album to be “front-loaded,” delivering its most powerful impact in the initial tracks. However, in mixed reviews, it was noted that the album might lack ambition for casual listeners, expecting a sound similar to their earlier work. Rolling Stone viewed it as a collection of scattered hits rather than a cohesive album, while The Guardian was critical, describing it as heavy on portentousness and empty bragging, perceiving it as rather mundane.
