Total Life Forever, the second studio album by English indie rock band Foals, was released on 10th May 2010 via Transgressive Records. Produced by Luke Smith, the album was recorded at Svenska Grammofon Studion in Gothenburg. Upon its release, it achieved chart success in several countries, peaking at number eight on the UK Albums Chart.

In January 2009, Foals offered fans a preview of their creative process by releasing three semi-instrumental segments of tracks on their MySpace profile. This was followed by a brief three-date tour in the United Kingdom in April 2009. During July of the same year, the band performed an intimate show for Rockfeedback, serving as a precursor to future festival appearances and providing a platform to debut songs from their upcoming album.

Foals supported Blur at their reunion show in Hyde Park, London, on 2nd July 2009, where they premiered an untitled new song. The band also showcased new material, including “Total Life Forever” and “Dirty Waves,” at the 2009 T in the Park festival later that month. These songs had been previously introduced during the band’s performance at The Breeders-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in May 2009. Additionally, in September 2009, Foals marked Transgressive Records’ fifth anniversary with a performance at London’s Heaven, where they presented new tracks such as “Spanish Sahara” and “Death Surf.”

The album’s title was officially unveiled on 24th February 2010, preceding the premiere of the promotional track “Spanish Sahara” on BBC Radio 1 by Zane Lowe, who named it his “Hottest Record in the World” for 1st March 2010. A remix of the track was subsequently made available for download on Foals’ official website. The music video for “Spanish Sahara” was released on Foals’ YouTube page on 2nd March 2010. To commemorate the 2010 Record Store Day, a limited number of vinyl copies of “Spanish Sahara” were released on 17th April 2010.

To support the album, Foals announced a fourteen-date tour of Europe spanning April to May 2010, with performances in cities including Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and various locations in the United Kingdom. These concerts marked the band’s first live appearances of the year.

After the limited release of “Spanish Sahara,” the album’s first official single, “This Orient,” was released on 3rd May 2010, reaching number 97 on the UK Singles Chart. The second single, “Miami,” followed on 4th July 2010, achieving a position of No. 127 on the same chart. The third single, “Blue Blood,” was released on 8th November 2010.
