Tomorrow Never Comes

With Tomorrow Never Comes, Rancid return with purpose and precision. Released on 2 June 2023, the band’s tenth studio album arrives six years after Trouble Maker and wastes no time reminding listeners why Rancid remain a cornerstone of modern punk.

Produced once again by Brett Gurewitz, the record is lean, direct and relentlessly forward-moving. Clocking in at just 28 minutes and 47 seconds, it is Rancid’s shortest album to date, a choice that suits its no-frills urgency. Notably, it also marks the first Rancid release since Rancid 5 to forgo ska-inflected detours, instead doubling down on hard-edged punk momentum.

The album rollout underlined that focus. A run of singles including the title track, “Don’t Make Me Do It”, “Devil in Disguise”, “New American” and “Live Forever” showcased a band still locked into the drive and grit that defined their earlier work, but sharpened by years of experience. On vinyl, a subtle sequencing change places “The Bloody & Violent History” at the front of side A, immediately setting a confrontational tone.

Tomorrow Never Comes does not attempt reinvention. Instead, it thrives on clarity and conviction, delivering a tight, forceful statement that feels both familiar and vital. For a band two decades deep into their catalogue, it is a reminder that sometimes the most powerful move is simply to play it fast, loud and honest.
