Following this, Jenkins revealed the tracklist and the second single, “Guapanese,” on 28 July, building anticipation ahead of the album’s release.
The Patience has received universal acclaim, holding a commendable score of 86 on Metacritic based on four critic reviews.
Critics have lauded the album’s production, described by Steve Forstneger of Beats per Minute as a seamless blend of soulful jazz and R&B, underpinned by dynamic beats. HipHopDX’s Alec Siegel highlighted Jenkins’ powerful delivery, noting that while his writing is sharp and direct, it is his captivating voice that commands attention throughout the album. Sheldon Pearce of NPR Music characterised the work as a “controlled but emphatic” reflection on Jenkins’ artistic journey, resonating with personal growth and self-evaluation.
Steven Loftin of The Line of Best Fit praised the album as a “classy combination” of jazz-inflected instrumentals and Jenkins’ incisive thoughts on contemporary issues, including racial injustice. BrooklynVegan’s Andrew Sacher commended Jenkins’ versatility, emphasising that he remains a masterful rhymer and innovative thinker. KTSW’s Thomas Stevens succinctly noted that Jenkins delivers his messages with finesse, utilising each word purposefully.
