For the first time in over 20 years, a comprehensive collection of 20 recordings by the Sex Pistols from 1976 to 1978 is available, showcasing the story of one of the world’s most influential and extraordinary bands.
The Sex Pistols: The Original Recordings compiles a pivotal period when the band was constantly in the news and the charts. The Sex Pistols made a profound impact on the British Establishment with their explosive entry into the music scene, heralding what would later be known as punk—an era-defining movement they themselves never fully embraced. They became the aggressive figurehead of a revolution that not only transformed music but also challenged social norms.
In 1977, the band released the iconic album Never Mind The Bollocks, which remains a seminal work of 40 minutes that profoundly influenced modern culture. From its striking artwork to its raw, rebellious music, the album has left an enduring legacy, influencing musicians from Joy Division/New Order and Kurt Cobain to Noel Gallagher, Green Day, and YUNGBLUD. The punk movement sparked a broader creative wave, impacting fashion, art, and design.
The single “God Save the Queen,” released in 1977, was controversially banned by the BBC but topped the UK NME chart and reached Number 2 on the Official UK Singles Chart, amid allegations of chart manipulation. Uniquely, the track was listed as a blank to avoid offending the establishment.
This collection features key singles such as “Anarchy In The UK,” “God Save The Queen,” “Pretty Vacant,” and “Holidays In The Sun,” as well as essential tracks from Never Mind The Bollocks. It also includes originals and covers from The Great Rock & Roll Swindle soundtrack and notable B-sides like “I Wanna Be Me” (the flip side of “Anarchy…”), “Satellite” (the B-side of “Holidays In The Sun”), and “Did You No Wrong” (from “God Save The Queen”).
