The Fear of Fear

Released on 3 November 2023, The Fear of Fear marks Spiritbox’s fourth EP, showcasing the Canadian band’s continued evolution in the metalcore scene. Following their acclaimed debut album Eternal Blue (2021) and the Rotoscope EP (2022), this six-track collection delves deeper into themes of anxiety, self-doubt, and existential introspection. The EP’s sonic landscape blends aggressive riffs with atmospheric melodies, reflecting the band’s signature fusion of metalcore, alternative metal, and djent influences.

Notably, “Jaded” and “Cellar Door” received consecutive Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Critics have praised the EP for its cohesive storytelling and dynamic range, with Metal Hammer highlighting it as a testament to the band’s willingness to explore new sonic territories without being constrained by expectations.

The Fear of Fear achieved commercial success, peaking at number 116 on the US Billboard 200 and securing top positions on various UK charts, including number 5 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart. This EP not only reinforces Spiritbox’s position in the modern metal landscape but also sets the stage for their subsequent full-length album, Tsunami Sea, released in 2025.
