”That’s My Story” is an album by the American blues musician John Lee Hooker, released around May of 1960 through Riverside Records. Recorded in a single session on 9 February 1960, at Reeves Sound Studio in New York City, the production was overseen by Orrin Keepnews. The album features the rhythm section from saxophonist Cannonball Adderley’s group, with bassist Sam Jones and drummer Louis Hayes.
Upon its release in 1960, “That’s My Story” received positive reviews from critics, including acclaim from The Jazz Review and Robert Shelton of The New York Times. At this point, Hooker’s Delta blues style had significantly influenced and become integrated into the “folk boom” in the United States. In retrospect, Mojo highlighted this record as the moment when Hooker started to “develop the more ruminative side of his work.”
