”Return of the Mack” is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter Mark Morrison, released on 22 April 1996. The album features the well-known popular song “Return of the Mack,” which became a major hit. The album received praise for Morrison’s strong voice and entertaining songs.
The album stayed on the UK Albums Chart for 38 weeks, peaking at number 4, and received platinum certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). On the US Billboard 200, it reached a peak of number 76. “Return of the Mack” is noted for making Morrison the first artist in British pop history to have five top-ten singles from a debut album on the UK Singles Chart. These singles included “Let’s Get Down,” “Return of the Mack,” “Crazy (Remix),” “Trippin’,” “Horny,” and “Moan and Groan.”
The first single, “Crazy,” was a top-twenty hit in the UK, with a remix reaching number 6. “Return of the Mack” became an international hit, spending two weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart and reaching number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Morrison’s success with this song made him the first black male solo artist to top the UK Singles Chart in the 1990s.
In 1997, Morrison received nominations for four Brit Awards, a Mercury Prize, an MTV Europe Music Award, and five Music of Black Origin Awards (MOBO), winning the Best R&B Song in the 1996 MOBO Awards for “Return of the Mack.”
The album’s release was preceded by three singles, and at the 1997 BRIT Awards, Morrison performed “Return of the Mack.”
