Ronnie Foster’s return to Blue Note Records in 2022 marks a significant milestone in his career, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of his debut album with the label, “Two Headed Freap,” released in 1972. This album featured his iconic track “Mystic Brew,” later sampled by A Tribe Called Quest for their renowned song “Electric Relaxation” from the album “Midnight Marauders” in 1994.
His latest album, “Reboot,” consisting of nine tracks, represents a fresh beginning for Foster. It showcases his distinctive Hammond Organ Groove, blending nostalgia with a forward-looking approach that reflects his artistic evolution. Embracing the legacy of Blue Note and his musical influences, Foster acknowledges the profound impact of predecessors who shaped his musical journey.
In the album’s liner notes, Foster dedicates “Reboot” to the memory of his brother and close friend, Dr. Lonnie Smith, a revered figure in jazz and a master of the Hammond B3 organ, who passed away in 2021. This dedication underscores Foster’s deep respect and gratitude towards those who inspired and guided him throughout his career.
