Puccini - La Boheme

This classic recording of one of the most popular and frequently performed operas is a remarkable example of its time. While the original 1956 recording was well-produced for its era, one can’t help but wish for stereo technology, which wasn’t yet available. The current EMI issue, although generally clear, falls short of the vibrancy one might hope for, often sounding rather dull and lifeless.

However, this new XR remaster brings much-needed energy and brilliance to the production. The sense of space, particularly in the Ambient Stereo version, offers a more immersive experience. Through meticulous attention to detail, including the identification of residual hums from the original recordings, I’ve adjusted the orchestral tuning to around 445.5Hz. This remaster also accounts for tape speed drift and variations between machines during the recording process. The result is, I believe, a definitive version that enhances both the clarity and the overall listening experience.
