Prelude

Thirty years into his career, Stefano Tirone returns with PRELUDE, a polished tenth album that plays like a love letter to two eras at once. Its title nods to the American label Prelude, the engine of New York’s late ’70s and early ’80s disco, as well as Eumir Deodato’s Prelude for CTI, a landmark of bold, borderless fusion. Tirone doesn’t just reference these worlds, he folds them seamlessly into his own.

The record splits its time between two complementary moods. One is steeped in soul, funk, disco and house, anchored by the rich, deep timbre of Julia St. Louis and the smoky jazz-blues delivery of Laura Fedele. The other leans towards warm Latin and Brazilian textures shaped by Toco’s contributions, culminating in a standout reinterpretation of Santana’s Guajira that feels both reverent and freshly imagined.

What unifies it all is Tirone’s unmistakable touch. PRELUDE confirms his talent for weaving genres into something clean, cosmopolitan and quietly distinctive. It’s a record that celebrates his influences yet stands confidently on its own, reminding listeners why the sound of S-Tone Inc. remains in a lane entirely its own.
