“North” stands as the fourth studio album by the American rock band Matchbox Twenty. Released initially on 28 August 2012, in Australia and subsequently on 4 September 2012, through Atlantic Records globally, it marked a significant achievement for the band. Notably, it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making an impressive entry by selling 95,000 copies within its inaugural week. This accomplishment marked a notable first for the band. “North” is particularly noteworthy as the band’s premier album of all-new material since “More Than You Think You Are” in 2002. Although they contributed six new songs to their 2007 compilation album “Exile on Mainstream,” this release stands as a comprehensive collection of fresh material. Additionally, the album holds historical importance as the first full-length studio release following the departure of rhythm guitarist Adam Gaynor from the band in 2005. Furthermore, “North” is significant as the concluding album produced by the longstanding producer Matt Serletic.
