My Life is the second studio album by American R&B artist Mary J. Blige, released on 29 November 1994 by Uptown Records and MCA Records. The album delves into themes such as clinical depression, struggles with drugs and alcohol, and experiences of abusive relationships. It marks a significant shift from her debut album, What’s the 411? (1992), as Blige contributed lyrics to fourteen tracks, making My Life her most introspective and personal work up to that point. The album features extensive production by Sean “Puffy” Combs from his newly established label, Bad Boy Entertainment, which was supported by Arista Records.
My Life is regarded as Blige’s breakthrough album. It reached number seven on the Billboard 200 chart and debuted at number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, where it remained for eight weeks. In 1996, the album was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 38th Grammy Awards and was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for shipments of three million copies in the United States. It also won the 1995 Billboard Music Award for Top R&B Album.
