“Muddy ‘Mississippi’ Waters – Live” stands as a live album by the renowned blues musician Muddy Waters, released in January 1979. The recording captures the energy and prowess of Waters during his 1977–78 tour, which was in support of his prior album, “Hard Again” (1977). Notably, this live album features the same ensemble of musicians, including luminaries like James Cotton and Johnny Winter, who had produced the aforementioned studio album.
Renowned critic Robert Christgau, writing for the Village Voice, lauded the performance, noting that age seemed incapable of diminishing the vitality of Muddy Waters, especially when complemented by Johnny Winter’s contributions. He humorously remarked on Waters’ song “Deep Down in Florida,” suggesting the sun-soaked setting was a tempting distraction. Christgau also alluded to a track titled “Condominium Blues,” playfully highlighting Waters’ ability to maintain a sense of humour while delivering his music.
