Jaye P. Morgan, born Mary Margaret Morgan, is a celebrated figure in American music and television, known for her work as a singer, actress, and game show panelist.

Her 1976 self-titled album, a rare and revered private press release, stands out as a lost classic. Recorded at the legendary Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, this record marked David Foster’s debut as a major producer, predating his work on Earth, Wind & Fire’s I Am by two years. Foster’s involvement, alongside a stellar roster of LA’s finest musicians—Harvey Mason, Ed Greene, Jay Graydon, Ray Parker Jr., Tower of Power, Ernie Watts, and more—makes this album one of the most lavishly produced private pressings ever.

Jaye P. Morgan offers a rich tapestry of sophisticated LA funk, with Morgan’s exceptional soulful vocals at its heart. The album includes the track “Can’t Hide Love,” which has found a new life in modern music through its sampling by Kaytranada. The track’s looped and chopped elements were famously repurposed by Mick Jenkins for his song “What Am I To Do,” further cementing this record’s enduring influence.
