In Our Own Sweet Time

“In Our Own Sweet Time” is the third studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy, released on 10 June 2022 through Liberation Music. Announced on 7 April 2022, the album was written during the COVID-19 pandemic and explores themes of creating a life and world with someone special. Joy describes the album as capturing moments of timelessness and retreat from the chaos of the outside world.

The album features the singles “Missing Piece,” “Don’t Fade,” “Clarity,” “Every Side of You,” and “Catalonia.” “Missing Piece,” released on 21 May 2021, peaked at number 14 on the Australian Singles Chart and was certified double platinum. The accompanying video, directed by Annelise Hickey, won the ARIA Award for Best Video in 2021. “Don’t Fade” premiered on Triple J on 10 February 2022 and was released the following day. “Clarity” was released on 8 April 2022 and was nominated for Best Pop Release and Song of the Year at the 2022 ARIA Music Awards. “Every Side of You” was released on 3 June 2022, and “Catalonia” was released alongside the album on 10 June 2022.

The album will be supported by the Long Way Home Tour, starting in Darwin on 17 September 2022. “In Our Own Sweet Time” was nominated for Best Independent Pop Album or EP at the AIR Awards of 2023.

The track listing includes songs such as “Don’t Fade,” “Solid Ground,” “Missing Piece,” and “Catalonia.” Various musicians contributed to the album, including Dave Bassett on multiple instruments and Joel Little on bass, programming, and backing vocals. The technical team included Dale Becker and Ted Jensen for mastering, Jeff Ellis and Spike Stent for mixing, and several engineers such as Dave Bassett, Guus Hoevenaars, and Joel Little.

The album performed well on various charts, reaching number 3 on the Australian Albums (ARIA) chart, 21 on the Canadian Albums (Billboard), 40 on the New Zealand Albums (RMNZ), 91 on the Swiss Albums (Schweizer Hitparade), 40 on the UK Album Downloads (OCC), 81 on the US Top Album Sales (Billboard), and 48 on the US Top Rock Albums (Billboard).
