Soul, in Bobby Oroza’s hands, is a quiet reckoning. Get On The Otherside, his second full-length, doesn’t shout its way through hardship, it exhales through it. Oroza first turned heads with 2019’s This Love, a lo-fi slow-burner that paired vintage soul aesthetics with unflinching emotional honesty. But while that debut was smitten with romantic longing, Get On The Otherside zooms out. There’s still heartache, yes, Bobby’s falsetto could make a phone book sound forlorn; but now it’s met with self-reflection, hard-earned clarity, and a philosophy carved out with calloused hands.

Stripped-back production from Cold Diamond & Mink leaves space for the messages to breathe. “I Got Love” feels like a mantra whispered through clenched teeth, equal parts gratitude and grit. “My Place, My Time” swaps romantic yearning for self-acceptance. Even the title track plays like a transmission from someone who’s seen the storm and chosen to walk through it anyway. The groove stays tight, the arrangements unfussy. Think Bill Withers raised on Dilla loops.

Oroza’s voice remains the anchor; restrained but rich, conversational but potent. He doesn’t indulge in vocal gymnastics; instead, he leans into space and subtlety, the cracks between phrases saying as much as the words themselves. On “Passing Things”, his guitar takes a rare spotlight, unfurling a solo that mirrors his lyrical sensibility: slow, sparse, but utterly intentional.

This is soul as healing ritual. There are no easy resolutions, no sweeping declarations. Just small truths, laid bare with grace. Get On The Otherside is not a reinvention, it’s a reorientation.
