“Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?” is the debut studio album by the Irish alternative rock band The Cranberries, released on 1 March 1993 through Island Records. This album marks the band’s first full-length release and their major label debut. It was written by lead singer Dolores O’Riordan and guitarist Noel Hogan, and features the band’s most successful US single, “Linger”.
The album achieved notable success, reaching number one on both the UK and Irish Albums Charts, and it remained on the UK chart for a total of 86 weeks. On 24 June 1994, it became the fifth album in rock history to top the charts more than a year after its release. By the end of 1995, it was ranked as the 50th best-selling album in Australia and it reached number 18 on the US Billboard 200, staying on the chart for 130 weeks. The album has sold six million copies worldwide.
In March 2018, The Cranberries’ remaining members announced a special 25th-anniversary edition of the album, which included remastered tracks and previously unreleased material. However, the release was delayed until late 2018 due to the passing of Dolores O’Riordan.
The album features 12 tracks, with a total length of 40:54. Notable tracks include “Dreams”, “Linger”, and “Sunday”. The 2002 re-release, titled “The Complete Sessions 1991-1993”, included additional tracks and remixes. A Super Deluxe Edition released in 2018 features out-takes, demo versions, live recordings, and sessions from various radio appearances.
The album’s personnel includes Dolores O’Riordan on vocals and acoustic guitar, Noel Hogan on guitar and backing vocals, Mike Hogan on bass guitar, and Fergal Lawler on drums and percussion. The production was handled by Stephen Street, with additional engineering by Aidan McGovern.
