Every Kingdom, the debut studio album by British singer-songwriter Ben Howard, was released in the United Kingdom on 30 September 2011 across various formats, including digital download, CD, LP, and a limited edition cassette of 200 copies. The album achieved a peak chart position of number four on 24 February 2013 in the UK Albums Chart, boosted by Howard’s success at the Brit Awards that week.

Ben Howard wrote the songs on the album, and Chris Bond handled the production. The cover art, designed by Owen Tozer, was based on photography by Mickey Smith and Roddy Bow.

Several songs underwent variations from their original versions: the music video version of “Old Pine” was featured on the Old Pine EP, with a remix by Everything Everything released as a single in July 2012. “The Wolves” and “These Waters” were re-recordings of the originals found on the These Waters EP, while “Keep Your Head Up” was a re-recording of the version initially present on the Games in the Dark EP. Additionally, “Black Flies” had a limited edition LP release in April 2012 as part of the 2012 edition of Secret 7″, each copy featuring different cover art.

Notably, “Black Flies” was featured in the 2017 Square Enix/Deck Nine game Life Is Strange: Before the Storm’s fourth bonus episode as the closing song.

Every Kingdom received a nomination for the 2012 Mercury Prize, marking a significant acknowledgment of Howard’s early work in the music industry.
