Released on 26th May 1997, “Do It Yourself” stands as the sole studio album by The Seahorses, an English alternative rock band formed by John Squire, formerly known as the guitarist for the Stone Roses. Produced by Tony Visconti, the album was recorded during the autumn of 1996 at Royaltone Studios in North Hollywood, California.

The album cover displays a photograph of Squire’s 1996 sculpture, also titled “Do It Yourself,” depicting a globe crafted from puzzle pieces.

It debuted at #2 on the UK Albums Chart, trailing behind Gary Barlow’s debut solo album, “Open Road.” Achieving platinum status in the UK by selling over 300,000 copies, “Do It Yourself” yielded three charting UK singles: “Love Is the Law” (No. 3), “Blinded by the Sun” (No. 7), and “Love Me and Leave Me” (No. 16), with the latter marking Liam Gallagher’s inaugural songwriting credit.

Additionally, NME readers voted The Seahorses as the fourth best new act of 1997, while Guitarist magazine’s readers ranked “Do It Yourself” as the tenth-best album of the year.

Following the album’s release, The Seahorses embarked on a brief UK tour in December 1997, supported by American alternative rock band Third Eye Blind. They also secured supporting slots with renowned acts such as The Rolling Stones, U2, and Oasis. However, plans for a follow-up album were abandoned when ongoing recording sessions were halted in January 1999, leading to the band’s eventual disbandment.
