Creation is the debut album from British songwriter, singer and pianist James Sayer, featuring the singles “Living It Up”, “Chemistry” and “Cherry”. After years spent performing and playing for others, this record marks a defining moment where Sayer steps fully into his own artistry.

Sayer describes the start of his songwriting journey as almost accidental: recording one demo simply for the love of it, which ultimately led to the creation of a full-length album. That spontaneity gives Creation an authenticity that feels refreshingly organic. Despite today’s technology-driven music landscape, Sayer was determined to make a record rooted in live musicianship and timeless songwriting.

Originally from Birmingham, Sayer grew up immersed in rhythm & blues and rock ’n’ roll through his father’s record collection, absorbing the sounds of Elton John and Jerry Lee Lewis before later discovering soul greats like Michael McDonald, Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison and Earth, Wind and Fire. Those influences run through Creation, shaping its warm, piano-led arrangements and classic melodic sensibility.

After moving to London in 2012, Sayer honed his craft night after night in piano bars, pubs and clubs, eventually securing a residency at the world-famous American Bar at The Savoy, where he was even spotted by Tom Jones. That relentless live experience is evident throughout the album: the performances feel confident, dynamic and steeped in tradition.

On Creation, Sayer blends soul, rhythm & blues, gospel and classic pop into a cohesive sound that feels both nostalgic and personal. It is a debut rooted in heritage but driven by individuality – a statement from an artist embracing the styles he loves while carving out a voice entirely his own.
