Con Todo El Mundo

With Con Todo el Mundo, Khruangbin expand the musical map established on their debut and deliver an album that feels effortlessly global in both spirit and sound. While The Universe Smiles Upon You explored the textures of Thai funk, this second outing looks further afield, weaving together influences from the Middle East, Spain and the Mediterranean into the trio’s unmistakably hypnotic groove.

The result is a remarkably cohesive listen. Bassist Laura Lee, guitarist Mark Speer and drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson continue to embrace restraint over excess, allowing every note to breathe. Their understated approach creates an atmosphere that feels simultaneously intimate and expansive, with each composition flowing naturally into the next.

Tracks such as “Cómo Me Quieres”, “Maria También” and “Cómo Te Quiero” shimmer with warm guitar melodies, deep-pocket rhythms and subtle psychedelic flourishes, while “Evan Finds the Third Room” injects a playful burst of funk that briefly lifts the album into livelier territory without disrupting its meditative flow. Elsewhere, the reflective beauty of “A Hymn” and the slow-burning finale “Friday Morning” reinforce the trio’s remarkable patience as arrangers, favouring mood and texture over dramatic climaxes.

The album’s title, translating to “With all the world”, perfectly captures its philosophy. Inspired by Laura Lee’s Mexican-American heritage, Con Todo el Mundo embraces musical traditions from across continents without feeling like a collage of borrowed ideas. Instead, Khruangbin absorb these influences into a singular sonic identity that is unmistakably their own.

Elegant, immersive and endlessly replayable, Con Todo el Mundo finds Khruangbin refining their distinctive formula while broadening its horizons. It is a beautifully understated record that invites listeners to slow down, lose themselves in its rhythmic detail and simply drift wherever its richly coloured soundscapes choose to take them.
