”Birdy” is the debut studio album by English musician Birdy, released on 4 November 2011 by 14th Floor Records and Atlantic Records. The album features several singles, including “Skinny Love,” “Shelter,” “People Help the People,” and “1901.”
Jon O’Brien of AllMusic praised Birdy’s “youthful and fragile” voice, commending the album for avoiding a “try-hard affair.” Nick Levine of the BBC referred to the album as a “clever covers set” that points to a promising future for the singer. Andy Baber of MusicOMH noted Birdy’s “haunting tones” and described her as one of the brightest up-and-coming talents in the UK.
The singles from the album include “Skinny Love,” a cover of Bon Iver’s song, which peaked at number 17 on the UK Singles Chart. “Shelter,” covering The xx’s track, reached number 50 in the UK. “People Help the People,” a cover of Cherry Ghost’s song, peaked at number 33 in the UK. The final single, “1901,” a cover of Phoenix’s song, was released in the UK on 9 March 2012.
