Big Conspiracy

J Hus returns with his much-anticipated second studio album, Big Conspiracy, a project that solidifies his status as one of the most dynamic forces in UK music. Released on 24 January 2020 via Black Butter Records and Sony Music UK, the album follows his 2017 debut Common Sense and the 2018 EP Big Spang. Once again, J Hus collaborates with frequent partner Jae5, alongside IO, TSB, and Nana Rogues, crafting a sonic palette that effortlessly blends grime, afrobeat, R&B, and more.

Opening with an exhilarating sense of purpose, Big Conspiracy showcases J Hus’ ability to navigate diverse genres with ease. The album’s lead singles, “Must Be” and “No Denying”, propelled the record to chart success, both landing in the UK Singles Chart’s top 40. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, marking J Hus’ first chart-topping record, and earned acclaim across Europe and beyond, charting in Belgium, Canada, Ireland, and Scandinavia.

From the swagger of “No Denying” to the silky charm of “Must Be”, the album introduces a mix of melodic hooks and rap verses that demonstrate Hus’ evolution as both an artist and a storyteller. Guest appearances from Koffee, Burna Boy, Iceè TGM, and Ella Mai add to the album’s allure, further expanding its sound. These collaborations, woven seamlessly into the fabric of the album, reinforce J Hus’ position as a unifying figure in contemporary British music.

Critically, Big Conspiracy is a triumph. It earned a glowing 86 on Metacritic, reflecting universal acclaim. With a perfect score from NME, Dhruva Balram described it as a “career-defining collection”, praising both the album’s excellent production and J Hus’ “range and gift for incorporating multiple genres within one album.” The Line of Best Fit echoed this sentiment, calling the album a testament to J Hus’ status as a trailblazer in UK music: “J Hus embodies this melting pot of sounds, and with Big Conspiracy, he delivers an album that once again blazes a trail for everyone else to follow.”

For all its success, Big Conspiracy isn’t just a commercial triumph; it’s an artistic one, showcasing J Hus at the peak of his powers.
