The collection highlights some of John Coltrane’s most notable recordings as a sideman, featuring collaborations with jazz luminaries such as Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, Tadd Dameron, and Art Taylor. It primarily focuses on Coltrane’s work from 1956 and 1957 on the Prestige, Riverside, and Jazzland labels. The compilation also includes a celebrated tenor saxophone solo by Coltrane on Miles Davis’s track “Someday My Prince Will Come” from the 1961 Columbia album of the same title. The liner notes are written by Doug Ramsey, an esteemed figure in jazz journalism who has received the Jazz Journalists Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Ramsey, the author of the acclaimed biography *Take Five: The Public and Private Lives of Paul Desmond*, has also won two ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards.
