Carey may have had limited control over the compilation’s scope, the label insisted on a US-only number ones format, but her fingerprints are still all over it. From the genre-defining melisma of “Vision of Love” to the hip-hop pivot of “Fantasy (Remix)” featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard, these songs trace an artist constantly evolving, even as she breaks record after record.
